LODGE TUTORS FOUNDATION TRAINING COURSE
FEEDBACK COMMENTS
QUOTATIONS FROM PROVINCIAL OBSERVERS:
1. I believe that this course gives an excellent and complete explanation of the workings of the Three Degrees. The innovative methods of introducing new Brethren to interpret, for themselves, the various symbols and allegories was an eye-opener. I can't think of anything which was left out.
2. The emphasis that the course placed on providing candidates with support throughout their Three Degrees, not leaving them on their own and providing them with every encouragement and reassurance is to be strongly recommended. In addition, the importance of stressing to the candidates, when answering their questions that this is my interpretation only is equally important as was the constant reiteration of the statement, " that what makes sense to one man may be non-sense to another". Another action, which to me was innovative and of very high merit, was to invite the candidate back into the Lodge, on his own, to walk through the Degree he had just taken and answer his questions. This to me was an important part of the consolidation part of the Degree process. I wish that I had had that kind of support when I joined Freemasonry.
3. I certainly believe that anyone taking this course will find themselves much better prepared to take on the task of a Lodge Tutor and Mentor. With so much material to hand, all of which is entirely relevant, giving advice and information will be so much easier. The course format, being in a template form, makes it very easy to alter to meet the requirements and idiosyncrasies of any and every Lodge. Having read through the course again, I would recommend that it would be to the advantage of all Master Masons to do this course, irrespective of whether they wish to become Lodge Tutors or not.
4. The course in general was an excellent experience. I hope that as time passes the content, structure and aims of this course will be embraced not only by those Lodges who have the privilege of working under the Grand Lodge of Scotland, but by every Lodge under every constitution in the world.
QUOTATIONS FROM STUDENT TUTORS WITHIN THE PROVINCE OF MORAY AND NAIRN:
5. There is absolutely no doubt that this course has done a great service to Freemasonry in my Lodge. All participants on this course must have made considerable improvements in their educator skills, ( even the professional teachers amongst us will have learned something new). The true advantage lies in the collective advances made in consistency of mentorship, quality and content which future candidates into Freemasonry can now expect. Well done to all concerned.
6.
As a young Master Mason, I attended this course really to find out what Freemasonry was all about as I had received no instruction at all other than going through the Degree Ceremonies themselves. Not only was I impressed with the knowledge I gained but I now believe that armed with this course template I can start to help new entrants into my Mother Lodge. I was on the point of giving up Freemasonry, because I did not understand it. Now that I have had so many avenues opened up to me I can see a future for me in the Craft.
Time does not permit me to type in more of the feedback at present. In the future I hope to add more comments. If you require any information about this course do not hesitate to contact me, Brother John B. Hutton Substitute Provincial Grand Master and Chairman of the Provincial Education Committee at the e-mail address below.
